We have an event coming up this August 18-19! WCAAI Fly-in Celebration/Chicago Air and Water Show. The WCAAI Fly-in Celebration is hosted by the City of Gary Indiana and will be held at the Chicago/Gary International Airport, Gary Indiana.

The WCAAI Fly-in Celebration will commemorate the 86th Anniversary of Bessie Coleman earning her license.

Trailblazer Bessie Coleman was forced to go to France to become the first licensed black pilot in 1921. Not since she barnstormed in the early 1920's to raise money to open a flying school has there been an event of this magnitude. This event will unite women of color in their roles as pilots, navigators, air traffic controllers, astronauts, satellite operators, flight surgeons, ground crew members, managers, engineers, scientists, and operations experts, in a collective effort to change current public perceptions of the Aviation and Aerospace Industry.

This event will also serve as a stepping-stone for future programs and enhance programs already in place. It will also foster and encourage community participation in this industry that currently does not exist – making it possible for the military and civilian workforce to benefit from the dividends of diversity in meeting organizational goals.
